– Caserta and its famous Royal Palace

Caserta is a city near Naples where you can go by train. The journey is very short: in fact, it takes about 40 minutes. Near the station of the city there is the famous Royal Palace of Caserta, a Bourbon residence that is the largest royal palace in the world. It was designed by the architects Luigi and Carlo Vanvitelli. It was inspired by the palace of Versailles and it is considered one of the most important examples of baroque and neoclassical architecture. In addition to the rooms of the Royal Palace there is also the large garden with the famous Vanvitelli aqueduct and the San Leucio complex.

– Cities of Irpinia

Irpinia is an area of ​​Campania region that includes several cities near Naples. Many towns can be reached from Avellino, a city where you can go from Naples by taking a bus. You can take it from the central station every twenty or thirty minutes. From Avellino you can go to natural areas such as Laceno lake or places of great historical importance such as Montevergine. In Montevergine you can visit one of the most important sanctuaries.

– Salerno

Salerno is a city near Naples where you can go by private buses (the terminal is at the Immacolatella gate), hydrofoils and national or local trains. The fastest way is by train. In Winter, Salerno is used as a scenario for a seasonal event in which many varieties of Christmas lights are put in every place of the city. During summer it is possible to take long walks on the seaside or visit places historically important for the Longobardicolonization. From Salerno you can goto the Amalfi coast or you can take a train to visit the temples of Paestum, one of the most important archaeological sites in the country.

– Gaeta

Although Gaeta is in Lazio, another Italian region, it can be considered a city near Naples as it is easily reachable by local trains. In addition to having a sandy and swimming coast, it has numerous attractions from a historical point of view. There, you can visit ancient shrines, temples and churches. In Gaeta you can also taste recipes of that area, such as the tiella (a special stuffed pizza) and some special olives.
