What to visit near Piazza Municipio? Here is a short itinerary to follow

What to do in Piazza Municipio

Once you get to Piazza Municipio, you will be amazed at the first glance. In the very same area, you can see Castel Nuovo, the Royal Palace, and the port. Looking up, you can see Castel Sant’Elmo and the Certosa di San Martino.

What to see in Piazza Municipio? Castel Nuovo, also known as Maschio Angioino, is among the attractions to visit. It is one of the 7 castles of Naples, commissioned by Charles I of Anjou at the end of the thirteenth century and then enlarged by the Aragonese successors in the fifteenth century. These types of monuments in Naples are ideal for paying attention to the stratifications of the different eras present in all the most important architectures of the city. Palazzo San Giacomo, the Town Hall, overlooks the opposite side of Piazza Municipio.

In via Medina, close to piazza Municipio, you can visit the Church Pietà dei Turchini, where sometimes it is possible to listen to classical music concerts. The link with music is ancient. Here studied musicians such as Alessandro Scarlatti, Giovan Battista Pergolesi, and Giovanni Paisiello.

Among the other attractions of Napoli close to piazza Municipio, the San Carlo Theatre stands out. Commissioned in 1737 by King Charles of Bourbon, the San Carlo Theatre is still today an international reference for opera and concerts. Attending a show is not the only way to visit the San Carlo Theater. It is possible to participate in the numerous guided tours organized specifically for those who simply want to admire the theater.

Right in front of the San Carlo theater, there is another attraction to visit, the galleria Umberto I. Note how beautiful still is the iron and glass dome!
